First Attempts At Realistic Drawing

From "Unappreciated" to Excellent "Acceptable" 😂

My first attempts at realistic drawing
I started drawing pictures of nature, animals, and humans with grotesque facial distortions in my elementary years as part of our Art Class. All of my drawings resembled nothing from reality even though I poured out all my strength just to make my drawings look realistic or acceptable to be called an art. It ended up all of my drawings were absolutely "Unappreciated". It was really frustrating as it affect my grades. ♪♫♬ I did my best, but my best wasn't good enough. ♪♫♬

During my high school years, I participated various activities which involved arts particular in props/backdrops making. I could say that my drawing abilities had improved a bit during my high school years as I had teachers who were good in art. I'd been observing them and that's where I got some techniques in drawing. From that, I was able to draw pictures of anything with minimal distortions. The final verdict of my artworks were excellent  "Acceptable". Hahah. Unfortunately, I haven't kept even one copy of my drawings.

Those drawings above were my first attempt in sketching a bit realistic pictures of me and my brother with a #2 Mongol pencil and short bond papers. It's not perfect but not a bad thing for a beginner. I didn't expect that I could develop this kind of skill. I could say that all us could draw and improve their drawing skills. In every skill there is a spectrum of proficiency. Negativity in mind should be taken away from the beginning, that is if a person is interested pursue his/her dream about drawing.

There are some articles stating that people who are left-handed are good at drawing, more creative etc. I am actually a lefty person but just like everyone else, I started with a distorted hand-drawn stick man. For me, it has nothing to do with the hand, whether you're a lefty, right-handed or ambidextrous. It's just a matter of believing in yourself.

Since then, my art journey began :) From drawing to painting.
